Refs: | Tall and slender person. 【山本賢の英訳解説】 “長身” means “Tall person.” “痩躯” means “Slender person.” http://kimamalove.blog94.fc2.com/blog-entry-3663.html Krause had imagined the owner of that lackadaisical voice to be tall and lean; apparently he was nothing of the sort. クラウスはあのつっけんどんな声の持ち主は長身痩躯だろうと想像していたが、どうやらちがうらしい。 金髪、長身痩躯、妖艶な容貌、ハスキーな声 https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/リリアン・タッシュマン vs. Tall, blonde, and slender with fox-like features and a throaty voice https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilyan_Tashman |

Comments: | Aligning with update to 痩躯. Gloss with a slightly more positive connotation. Wasn't easy to verify with a real x-ref. Searched 長身痩躯 on wikipedia, and looked for "tall" in English-xrefed articles. Often applied to tall baseball players, but fairly non-specific. Usually omitted entirely in English. After that, usually glossed simply as "tall", as the slender bit is kind of implied and not-so-critical I guess. Perhaps 長身痩躯 is just more efficient to throw around in Japanese. Interesting term. And even though I dropped it from 長身, I also found "slim" as a gloss when describing a particular vampire's physique. But really, I think the author has a wide berth to do what they want with this. |
