I don't think we need to include the etymology in this entry.
Better to xref to ホルモン[2] and give the etymology there. |

our entry for ホルモン flatly says that this sense of ホルモン comes from 放る物. i don't think we can have it both ways |

This had escaped my attention last time: "giblets" refers to poultry entrails, while
the correct term when talking about cows and pigs is "offal"... |

horumonyaki 【ホルモン焼き】horumonyaki 【放物焼き】–common noun fried beef or
pork giblets ―Usually written using kana alone. Kansai-ben (dialect). |

The hiragana version is also used - its frequency may be similar to the kanji
version - here is the raw Googit ratio of the three entries, at the time of filing:
543,000 / 5,440 / 4,800)
There are three entries in your database that i found, the last two (ED)
probably corresponding to the one i am editing (my guess) - does the existence
of the first entry warrant any update/merging or is that entry an ingredient
for the one i am editing? (Trying to understand better how"Translate Words"
works... ^^)
ほるもんやき (ksb:) (n) fried beef or pork giblets; ; KD
ホルモン焼き 【ホルモンやき】 (n) (uk) (ksb:) fried beef or pork giblets; ED
放物焼き 【ほるもんやき】 (n) (uk) (ksb:) fried beef or pork giblets; ED
The point of this amendment (suggestion) is
1) to ask Jim to _either_ incorporate the comment at the bottom of the
dictionary code page ("In addition to the codes above, for gairaigo [...]) into one
of the tables on that page, to make the regional variants information more
obvious (more quickly obvious) (i only figured out what ksb meant after i saw
the reference i mention here and subsequently did a "find ksb" operation on the
dictionary code reference page, since "ksb" had escaped my attention in
previous attempts at looking it up there) and b) _or_ to simply right those
things out in the dictionary (ex. "Kansai dialect" instead of "ksb").
2) to ask Jim for the addition of the code "ryu" for expressions belonging to
one of the Ryukyu languages (which, for political reasons, are called "Okinawan
dialects" - likely the better known term among non-linguists). |
