Comments: | I don't think Antonio's translation is a good match with what's in the source quoted. |

Comments: | this is not what the lsrc tag is used for. it gives etymology of loanwords. i can't find any evidence of the french being adopted as the common term in english, so i suggest it be omitted altogether. otherwise it has to be included as an ordinary gloss |

Comments: | * Add French source (Term is calque from Monadologie, by Leibniz, and is a key part of his theory of monads) * Philosophical term (ideally flagged as such: [fld=phil]) * Term appears to be used in noh – rather, my (v. intellectual) kyōgen instructor used this term to describe how noh actors interact: they’ve all practiced their roles, but only rehearse once together, so while the actors do not (in the main) affect each other, still they appear to interact harmoniously because they are all following a plan (as in Leibniz’s theory of monads). I don’t know if this (noh application) is a standard usage of the term, but the term is certainly used in Japanese philosophy. |
