付け木つけ木付木
つけぎ
1. [n]
▶ thin strip of wood smeared with sulfur, used to light a fire

  Comments:
Well a "spill" doesn't have sulfur (confirmed by OED, F&W, etc.). So if it's intrinsically part of 付け木, it can't be glossed as spill, despite what GG5, etc. say.

  Comments:
I'm not sure I agree with the last two glosses.
付け木 has a very specific definition and it's no longer used today (whereas kindling, etc. is).
From ニッポニカ: "大正時代になると、マッチの普及により使用されなくなった"
I'd favour a descriptive gloss over anything else.
