半月のことで、弦を張った弓のように見えることからの命名。
  Comments:
I don't think "crescent moon" is right.
I think one x-ref is sufficient. The kokugos don't mention 半月.
Brian, in most x-refs, it's not necessary to include both the kanji and the reading. Never use the sequence number on its own when creating an x-ref (e.g. [see=1263090]). Stick to [see=弦月], [see=ありがとう], etc., only using the sequence number to disambiguate (e.g. [see=1255430・月], [see=1605370・やかん]).

Actually I think the "half" should lead.

GG5, 中辞典, etc. all gloss this as "crescent moon". I think that's fine.

Shocked, but I guess this is hyphenated.
