Only 日国 and 新明解 have 掻掘. As stated in my previous comment, 掻掘 seems to just be getting hits from the book title 掻掘のおけい |

checking google images
掻掘 seems to just be getting a bunch of hits from a book "掻掘のおけい"
I think it's outdated okurigana now

the key is that it is usually done to catch fish. AFAICT, the reference provided doesn't suggest that there's anything particularly unusual about the procedure, just that it is traditional |

The current entry seems rather inadequate, as though
"kaibori" is just a normal old word meaning to drain a
lake/pond. In reality, it is a semi-untranslatable cultural
practice, and I have quoted the article's definition as a
supplement to the current entry. |
