Note that the example in sense #1, 「都会の風俗を―した小説」, is in the context of fiction (小説), whereas edict 
sense #3 says "as opposed to fiction".

I think I've worked out what it means, but would it perhaps be clearer as: 
"photographic image (as opposed to a drawing, computer-generated image, etc.)"?
