That ref confirms sense 3. It's tagged as "豪俗", but I think it's Cockney rhyming slang rather than peculiarly Australian. "Old cheese" is from "cheese and kisses"; rhyming slang for "missus". |

I've run across this in a few places... similar to the way a wife might use あなた to refer to her husband, a husband might refer to his wife as 母さん. English has a similar colloquial/familiar use of a husband referring to his wife as "mother" (if the couple has children).
Also as described at the first reference link: "in oral expression, a humble term for referring to one's own wife".
Please modify the phrasing of the meaning if you'd like. |
