I don't think wikipedia having an entry for
"okazu" is a great argument for us including
it here, considering how wide that sense of
the word is. I tried making it more clear it
doesn't have to be a side dish (to what in
English is called "the main dish"), though it
can be that to (e.g. in the case of okazu for
ramen)
____
I think "something for the spank bank" isn't
bad register-wise here. A crude translation
for a crude term shouldn't be an issue, should
it? Also it doesn't look/feel like an expl to
me, unlike "material fot assisting arousal".
Googling for "for the spank bank" shows this
is typical phrasing online. |

I think we can drop "food for thought". It's not in the refs and I've never heard おかず used in that way.
The "spank bank" gloss feels to me like a second (cruder) explanatory gloss so I agree it's not needed. |

I don't think the extra "spank bank" gloss is really necessary. I also think it's too crude and obscure of a slang

I think sense 2 should be two senses. "food for thought" isn't a great translation for "material for assisting arousal during
masturbation".
But is "food for thought (esp. in the context of conversation..." really correct? |

When a Japanese eats a meal consisting of rice, a pork cutlet and pickles, then he thinks of the rice as the main dish, and the pork cutlet and pickles as side dishes (おかず).
But to a Westerner, the pork cutlet is the main dish and the rice and pickles are side dishes.
I tried to clear up this confusion. |
