Yes, my 1930s GG1(?) has "silent contempt". I agree the "No comment. We need more time" is poor. "Shunning" is a bit problematic too, although it may just work in some contexts.

Maybe the "contempt" bit is slightly more loaded than it has to be but I'm not really sure the New York Times article is on the ball 
here. Based on the kokugo's/wa-ei definitions, I have a hard time understanding how something like "黙殺します" could be interpreted to 
mean "No comment. We need more time." Googling a little for 鈴木貫太郎 黙殺 it seems that the issue might really have been a poor choice 
of words on behalf of Suzuki (or the media describing the government's position?) rather than an actual bonafide mistranslation. The 
whole story has the feels of an urban legend (though I could be wrong).

Looking at the examples in GG5 and prog especially, I don't see much of an issue with "shunning", if it's towards the end of the entry.
