Comments: | but again we normally omit "in Japan/Japanese", and then we're down to "annual open day school event" which doesn't really explain much. I've tried adding to it so that we're actually explaining it a little better. I was going to add "held in the fall" but it looks as if there's a minority of schools doing them in the spring instead. I don't think there's any reason to omit "school festival" which is in chujiten, eij, etc. It's less opaque than "cultural festival", a gloss which I don't think will mean much to anybody who's not already familiar with the concept. |

Comments: | I think "school festival" is the most informative − that two-word gloss already implies "annual event held by school", which again, is why I don't think we need the expl. |
