When used as 付き物だ(or です, or である), the word has a sense not captured here--that of "X usually accompanies Y" or "with X you usually get Y" (e.g., 歩道には並木が付き物だが、ここでは並木の代わりに、古新聞の束があった。-- There are usually trees lining a sidewalk, but here there were piles of old newspapers instead.)    
But I'm not sure whether this is something to add to this word (since this more an exp than a noun), or if it should be a new entry for 付き物だ・です・である.
