I've looked hard at the references and quotes and I think the glosses were fine before. "panic while frantically trying" is reading too much into it IMO.
I'm not proposing 逃げ迷う as an entry. It's rather uncommon cf 逃げ惑う.

shinmeikai uses similar phrasing

not the commenter but I'd phrase it something like "to run aimlessly/confusedly around trying to escape" i.e. the point is that you don't know where you're running, you don't have a clear direction at hand (and the person next to you may be running in a different direction)
of course there will no doubt be a dimension of panic there too in the confusion

"run about" means being "busy doing something" + it seems weird and just not immediate to me
