Relationship between tsubo and square meter
One tsubo is about 3.30578 square meters and one square meter is about 0.3025 tsubo. In reality, the fraction continues endlessly, but it is not practical to make it smaller.
This "tsubo" is often written as 3.3 square meters, but when calculated with 3.3, an error of about 0.05 square meters will occur for 100 square meters. Although it is a slight difference, it can be a big difference in the amount of money in metropolitan areas with high land prices... |

I could see 坪当 maybe appearing in some very compact real estate marketing, or I wouldn't bother at all.
Would be nice to indicate why this exists (real-estate pricing, a la price-per-square-foot). The suumo article ties this and the xref together.
This "(area)" note is used only once in jmdictdb, so it doesn't seem to be a standard. Just giving the area seems more useful to me. 3.31 meters feels like too many significant digits for this use case. Google says a tsubo is 3.30579 sq meters. Probably the entry for 坪 should be edited. |
