The context is a festive activity in Yaeyama, Okinawa, during the Bon-Festival. 
The questions being asked are sometimes provocative, sometimes meant to 
provoke laughter - but not "irrelevant" - and in any case meant to elicit witty 
replies. Two dictionary sources mentioned above suggest that "irrelevant" is too 
narrow a definition, but i'd like someone to double-check (and perhaps improve) my 
suggested definition...
