For the addition of a "look up" meaning (which is quite a common usage, and which none of the previous meanings clearly capture): https://eigobu.jp/magazine/look-up

I'm interested in adding a "look up" meaning to this entry, as, when I first moved to Japan, this was quite a point of confusion for me. 調べる is the most common verb to use in cases of searching for (looking up) a word in a dictionary, instructions online, etc., but few online English-Japanese dictionaries captured this usage, and I had to glean it from daily conversation.

This meaning is potentially contained within "to search," but I don't feel that's an intuitive way to convey the usage in this case. We don't say, "I'll to search for it in a dictionary," or at least not nearly as often as one would announce intent or habit by saying, "I'll look it up in a dictionary." "Search," to me, implied a much more rigorous and involved activity, especially when combined with the other listed meanings for 調べる, which capture its more serious uses. Based on the current entry, I would never guess that 調べる is the correct verb to use in cases where "look up" would be the appropriate phrase in English.

(This is a duplicate edit; I made a formatting error in the previous one.)
