Comments: | The Kenkyusha JEs say things like "give [send] sb sth as a 「present [gift]", but I agree it should not be just "to send" - it's the "give" that is the key. |

Refs: | Almost none of the sources I've checked say it means "send". It seems that you need to write 送る for that sense. .
