I think we have to regard it as a case of the writers of those works playing with words. Perhaps they found せんぷう or つむじかぜ too long. Maybe they meant かぜ to be an abbreviation. I don't think we can add かぜ as a reading here.

It could be that this kanji also has a reading of "かぜ". See for example the titles of these works:
