Refs: | The "meddling" and "bother" meanings seem very context dependent. The relevant examples on eijiro are prefixed with 余計な. There don't seem to be many kokugos with this expression, but those that do have it (daijs, oukoku, nikk) don't say much more than 「他人の面倒をみる」.
