Basing gloss off of 一本締め and adding an xref.
Is there support for this being used at the beginning of something, rather than the end? The Wiki ref and daijr both say it's a type of 手締め, which they both say are used at the conclusion or completion of something. |

The current "hand-clapping patter (at start of party)" is inadequate in that:
a) it doesn't account for the "三本." There are various 手締め, and 三本 is one of them.
b) "patter" makes you think of "meaningless, rapid talk; mere chatter; gabble." If it is being used here in the sense of "a rapid succession of light tapping sounds," then it's the wrong word, as this "patter" is never associated with the loud, harsh sound of hands clapping. |
