I don't know enough about linguistics to have a strong opinion
about it. Since most of the kokugos split the senses, I just
assumed they had some good reason for it.

I do think this entry could use more detail than it did before,
though. It could be because I'm a bit of a dimwit, but the
meaning didn't click with me until I checked with the kokugos,
which provide some examples (「書く」の「か」, etc)

I think this is really one sense. "stem" can also be used in the context of Japanese. I preferred the entry as it was before.
