I think it's a bit hard to understand what the present
definition is trying to say. What is a "door to carry
things"?! :-)
In modern usage, I expect it would only very rarely have the
sense noted in dictionaries, such as Kodansha's definition ~
人・物をのせて運ぶために外した, 板張りの雨戸
Examples where it's not used for carrying things ~
1) GI: photo of kids climbing a cupboard door removed from
its frame and inclined against the sash of an open window,
for kids to play on
窓枠を外し、押入れの戸をかけて 戸板のぼり!
2) doors for sale: 秋田杉 戸板 (4枚口). サイズ 2250 × 850 × 12
