Comments: | Correct. Our 省 entry covers that. |

Comments: | China has both. 県 is county, 省 is province. |

Comments: | I think it'd be better to have "county; department; province" - actual glosses, instead of an explanatory translation. I don't think the fact there's an overlap in the English glosses with 州 is a problem. From an ei-wa perspective, perhaps, but I don't know that the current gloss really does anything to clear things up. I don't think we should have an xref to しゅう. |

Comments: | Maybe this works. There's a messy overlap with 州/しゅう. For example Canada's provinces are 州, not 県. |

Refs: | Wikipedia lists Norwegian, Danish and Swedish counties (fylke/amt/län) as 県, and also Italian provinces (provincia). daij have separate senses for Japanese and Chinese 県. |
|
Comments: | Should this maybe be 2 senses, one "Japanese prefecture", the other "county; province; department"? |
