I think women/men is better than females/males. Children usually aren't referred to as あなた, anyway. As you say, it might not be necessary to include this in the note. I'm not opposed to dropping it.

Probably the most badly-taught term in JSL.
At first I thought the long note was too much, but think we have a responsibility to get the context and usage right. I moved the kanji comments to the end as their use is really marginal at best.
