Comments: | Those n-grams tell the story. It's not a noun (despite Daijirin's usual "名") and it's far more に/の than な. In fact almost all the JE examples are 格段の and 格段に. I'll approve and reopen in case there's further discussion. I think staying with adjectival glosses, which is what all the JEs have, is appropriate. |
