OK. I guess I just feel that "triumphant return" is a poor translation of the text where I encountered it. "triumphant", "in triumph"
are very positive words, but I got the impression "凱旋" was more of a statement of fact in that passage, i.e.
〇 "It was after the war, when our troops came back."
× "It was after the war, at the time of our troops triumphant return." |

I'm with Robin here. On reflection I think it's really only one sense. If the heavy-splitting kokugos don't split it, we're straining it a bit. |

I still feel it's unnecessary as "triumphant return" works for both meanings. Sense 2 just looks like sense 1 in more words. (And I don't think it's necessary to indicate that "triumphant return" doesn't specifically refer to war.) |

daijs might not split, but they're certainly describing two different things. the glosses could maybe be changed/moved around but I
think having 2 senses here is sensible. |

I don't think a second sense is needed. "Triumphant" means "having won a battle or contest". |

daijs 戦争に勝って帰ってくること。成功を収めて帰ってくること。
saw this with the original meaning in an early Showa text: "ソレから盃の売れたのは日清戦争の凱旋の時でした。"
I think it makes sense to split into 2 senses, one with the general meaning, one with the literal. |
