A bit more info. It is from https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/カトリーヌ・ド・メディシス

カトリーヌはマルグリットを彼女の意思から切り離し、二度と会うことはなかった。

This appears to be a translation of the English "Catherine cut Margaret out of her will and never saw her again" (at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_de'_Medici). However, I guess it may be a mistranslation (translator not understanding the sense in which "will" is meant).

I think it's incorrect to use for a testamentary will.

Are you sure it wasn't 遺志? Daijisen and Daijirin have a second sense in their 意思 entries but it concerns
"intent/intention" as a legal term, e.g. criminal intent.

I've seen this used as a translation of English "will" in the sense of a document stating what one wants to happen to one's possessions after one's death. This sense is missing here (or not explicit), but I'm not certain it's a correct translation.
