How about this?
I don't think we need sense 2 at all. As 中辞典 helpfully points out, "lynching は「私的処刑」であって, 殺人行為を意味する. 単に「私的制裁」もしくは「集団暴行」を意味する日本語の「リンチ」とまったく同じではない."
