i agree. all my kokugo dictionaries list the normal english meaning of 'feminist' first, but i've had real conversations in which people were genuinely confused when i used フェミニスト to mean what we normally call a 'feminist'. i think the original ordering more accurately reflects modern usage vs. etymology |

I suspect the 国語s are being historical/politically correct, and the JEs are reflecting actual usage. Certainly when I was first learning Japanese in the 80s it was emphasized that フェミニスト meant sense 1. Has it changed? |
