I've watched quite a bit of F1 with Japanese commentary. I don't think ピットイン and ピットストップ are interchangeable.
ピットストップ and ピットアウト aren't in major refs. I don't think either x-ref is needed. |

I think both x-refs are needed. ピットアウト is the antonym. ピットストップ should be a bidirectional reference, as ピットイン is both 1/2 of the pit stop, and an alias for the entire pit stop, depending on context. But ピットストップ itself is a perfectly fine gloss for "pit stop", based on the n-gram counts.
