Interesting. Here the bakeries, which are mostly "hot bread" chains, sell all sorts of cakes, pastries, etc. We don't call them pastry shops, though. |

I think what I was thinking of is that bakeries in Japan sell a lot of things you wouldn't expect to find in what gets called a "bakery" in Europe or the US. Compare
bakery site:co.uk
with
パン屋
on google images. It's all a bit muddled of course with no clear delineation but I don't think having "pastry shop" as the last definition subtracted anything from the entry. |
