Just want to clarify that I was thinking specifically about non-Japanese names, which Daijr, Kojien, etc. do not include (although I don't think Japanese surnames are needed in JMdict either). |

I'd like to close this off and ask that further discussion take place in the issues GitHub page. There is a related open issue there:

Daijisen, Daijirin, Nikkoku, Kojien, Wadoku
are all general-purpose dictionaries that have
entries for surnames. |

I don't think a general-purpose dictionary should include names unless they refer to specific (historically significant) people. Most people are intelligent enough to realise that not every instance of バッハ/Bach refers to the composer. |

There's another Bach in the news right now (IOC
president)...
I'm not at all opposed to having more surnames
in jmdict. |

I don't think [surname] should be used in JMdict. The names deemed important enough to include in JMdict all refer to specific people. I'd prefer an approach like this. If we want to mention other Bachs, they could be added as additional senses. |

Probably better, esp. for Bach, where there was a whole family of them. |

Prob better to only use [person] tags for full names? |

For the moment we are keeping the "n" POS tag on these. |
