Someone added "cold cereal" and "breakfast cereal" in 2007 along with this comment (but no references): "In popular usage, this words refers to any kind of breakfast cereal, and not just flake-shaped ones made of corn."
I don't think this is true. It certainly isn't used for muesli/granola.
The above link includes ココくんのチョコワ (which are like chocolate Cheerios) in a "top 5 cornflake cereals" list but I'm struggling to find other examples of コーンフレーク referring to non-flaked cereals. Google image results for コーンフレーク are what you'd expect. |
