For 「おい」, daijr/nikk/gg5 have similar notes as daijs. But meikyo/koj only note the familiar part.
Regarding 「おおい」, daijs has: 「遠くの人に呼びかけるときの声」. So while they both might be used for calling out, the situation is different. Probably best to split the long variants out (without [fam, male]) and note that they're used at a distance. |

Restoring the entry to its original form.In JMdict entries
with identical indexing fields, either kanji/kana combinations or kana-only, are not split. This is in contrast to other dictionaries which split them on source, etc.
One reason for maintaining this approach is to enable the unique linking of example sentences to entries in applications such as WWWJDIC, Jisho, etc. |

also, the Tanaka corpus tagging becomes ambiguous if we have entries with identical head words |

In general for kana-only entries we include the different words with the same reading as separate senses in the one entry. This was done originally to simplify lookup procedures and avoid users only noticing one translation.
Printed dictionaries usually split them into distinct entries. |
