I think it's the limit itself; not the reaching.

I tried... then kept reading.
Not sure if this is "reaching the upper daily price limit" or "(reaching the) upper daily price limit", or two distinct senses.

Same change needed on xref. Note the yahoo finance sort option of "ストップ高" and "ストップ安", showing specifically stocks that triggered the limit for the day. I saw the する usage earlier, but it was small vs absolute ngrams. Even so, vs/となった usage seems to support the "reaching" bit.

Trading Rules of Domestic Stocks
https://www.jpx.co.jp/english/equities/trading/domestic/06.html
TSE sets a price range, known as the "Daily Price Limit", within which price fluctuations are limited in a single day. Daily Price Limits are set in absolute yen basically according to prices such as the previous day's closing price (Base Price).

you can compare google of "maximum allowable single-day gain" (je dictionaries) and "upper daily price limit" (not plentiful, but stock-exchange related).

Happened to be watching a stock that encountered a ストップ安 today. ストップ安 was listed in yahoo stocks next to the stock. A "loss"(our old gloss) is a difference. ストップ安 is evidently a specific price.

This is a mostly foreign concept to Western stock exchanges (last ref wikipedia: Asian exchanges only), though I found it in use with some European commodities markets. Still, anything that makes it look like a western stock-trading term will be misleading.

This is not a "circuit breaker" as we have in the west, which temporarily halts trading. Trading still continues, you just can't execute trades outside the range. The terms "limit up" and "limit down" (also given by eijiro) refer to absolute differentials (max gain, max loss), not specific target prices, so are also wrong. I think all of the eijiro glosses are lacking in one way or another.
