Comments: | Encountered as [2]: ナメていると死ぬよ。 (The winters here are bitter...) Underestimate them and you'll die. Subtitled with katakana ナメ, consistent with the discussion that forked this entry off of 舐める. Having "to underestimate" under [1] at the end of a long list has a couple of shortcomings: 1. This particular list really looks like it is trying to apply to people 2. At the end of the list, "underestimate" looks like a context-dependent niche possibility, rather than a primary sense. No one is talking about "looking down on", "making fun of", "putting down" or "mistreating" a mountain, I don't think.(refs) |
