"graven image" seemed a little out of place; obviously biblical. I don't see any such nuance in the kokugos. It may be true that actual Bible translations use this term where "graven image" may appear (a couple examples appear in reverso). But this is a case where it seems to do more harm than good to suggest that this nuance has anything at all to do with the Japanese term. Reverso gives plenty of other attempts at this biblical translation. 刻んだ像 and 偶像 seem more common. 偶像 (we gloss as "idol" among other things), seems like a better fit to me. And I wouldn't add "graven image" there either.
