That's my position as well. I don't think it's appropriate to use a vulgar translation for a non-vulgar word.
It's also not a recognisable term to 99.9%+ of the English-speaking population so I can't see how it would even be helpful. |

I'm honestly fine either way on this entry, but it makes absolutely no sense to remove it on the grounds of it being
"obscure 4chan slang" when this use of 固定 would be "obscure 2ch slang" by the same standards. Consider that 4chan
is the 102nd most frequented web site in the US (according to alexa.com), while 2ch, or 5ch.net as it's called now,
is ranked 41st in Japan. 4chan is closely based on the 2ch format and the only major Western web forum that I know of
where the default is that people post without accounts. 4chan is currently owned by the creator of 2ch (Hiroyuki
Nishimura). The connection between the two sites is far from strenuous. It's vulgar and offensive, yes, but it's a
good, concise and useful translation. |
