The "あるもの" that daijirin is referring to would be one's past achievements and accomplishments for example ("one's laurels"). The example sentences in the kokugos help make this clearer.

I don't think this expression is used in the sense of mooching / leaching off / exploiting the efforts of other people. It's more like "complacency and laziness due to taking your current favorable condition for granted."

The proposed new sense was a duplicate of the "rest on one's laurels" sense.

"あぐら" has many different kanji forms (at least 6 according to shinmeikai). No need to display or record them all in every expression that uses the word, especially if they're rare.
