"警察では「ホシ」や「太夫さん」などの隠語で「被疑者」を呼ぶ。" |

Comments: |
I saw ホシ in the subtitles of a film.
Reordered some of the senses. Doesn't affect the sentences. |

daijr has "一般には、太陽や地球・月以外の天体をいうことが多い。"
and daijs "ふつう、天体のうち、太陽と地球と月を除いた恒星・惑星・彗星 (すいせい) ・星団あるいは星座をいう。"
Heard used in TV show as "この星をもっと豊かにする" in reference to Earth, and there's a song called "この星に生まれて"
so I think "not" is too strong. |

Moved senses around a bit, and added another new one "star (actor, player, etc.") (based on our 花形 sense 2)
Every single example is currently tagged as sense 1.
http://nihongo.monash.edu/cgi-bin/wwwjdic?1Q_0_ۤ_
These should probably be (the new) sense 2 though:
"これらのクッキーは星の形をしている。"
"クッキーはどれも星の形をしている。" |
|
Comments: |
what's the source for "circular symbol (said to be shaped like a shining star)"? Is this a mistranslation for "star shape"? Or a
duplicate of "bullseye?" (in nikk: 小さく丸い形の点。標的などの中心を示したりする黒点をいう。)
It's not on it's own in any source I have access too (e.g. yahoo/gg5) so I'm removing it for now. |

why? we generally link from rarer terms or more colloquial terms to more common or more formal terms, not the other way around. 星 is definitely more common and more formal |
