Sounds like the 門前 origin of メン in メンタンピン might be of folk etymological or otherwise uncertain origin, so it might actually be best for us to omit it. Sorry for the confusion.

See my comment on yaku (1537970・役・やく[4]) as to why I believe we should refer to rīchi, tan'yao, and pinfu as "yaku" rather than "melds"
