Comments: | It's just one sense. Also, a [sens] tag has to refer to the Japanese term; not one English sense. |

Comments: | Looks like a word that is becoming/has become disfavored over time. This term is currently [news2], but I doubt it would be if stats were collected today. This term is *mentioned* in sankoku under 浮浪 in this way: 【[ー者]今は「ホームレス」】 it does not get its own entry. I won't be surprised if my edit is squished back into one sense, but mixing the glosses together gives no guidance for non-English-natives. If you are reading old texts, even government publications used 浮浪者 in designating homeless people. This use is [dated]. Use ホームレス instead. But 浮浪者 is obviously still quite common. Google for: site:mainichi.jp "浮浪者" , 20 results returned, generally of a historical nature Google for: site:mainichi.jp "ホームレス" , endless stream of results One of the uses of 浮浪者 in mainichi.jp, for example, was discussing the two "vagrants" from "Waiting for Godot". Like 看護婦, "deprecated" is maybe the right idea. You'll obviously see this term all over the place even today (especially since the homeless command no degree of respect, unlike nurses). But foreigners should probably be advised to avoid it and use ホームレス instead. |
