I'm putting the "(metaphor for)" back for the time being (no case was made for removal).
There are quite a few entries with parenthetical comments like this, and we probably need to consider at a policy level how they should be handled. One possibility is to have a [met] gloss-type tag as we do for expl/lit/fig/etc.
I'll reopen it for discussion.
