Comments: | Seems idiomatic to me, since the meaning can't be derived from a sense of 「枯れる」. gg5 has "wither; dry up" for 「枯れる」, but that's referring to vegetation. 「涸れる」, which has the same origin, *does* have a sense for things like tears drying out, but the kokugos distinguish the two verbs. |
