Comments: | Possibly remove statistics? [news2,nf40] Both forms are common names, news results all seem to be proper names. "manliness" seems like an English invention here, and a somewhat anachronistic gloss in 2023. Certainly nothing inherent in the dictionary definitions suggests "manly" beyond the idea of "firmness of character" being an "innately" manly attribute. Never translated as "manly"/"manliness" in reverso. I can't imagine actually translating 剛毅な as "manly" today. Interesting overlap with 剛気;豪気, almost mergeable, but I think the split is fine (kokugos split). ngrams inflated because this is a common name. |
