It's in GG5 and ルミナス, so I'd avoid [dated]. |

I'm not sure. Sankoku 8th ed. (2021) doesn't indicate that it's dated. The 天然痘 entries in the newest editions of daijr and daijs point to 痘瘡. |

We have three different words here. もがさ and おやく are archaic. I suggest dropping both.
とうそう isn't marked as dated in sankoku, meikyo or shinmeikai. I think an x-ref is sufficient.
Brian, please read my comment on 1840080 regarding x-refs. |

This term: 4306
xref: 52606
Wikipedia says: 医学界では一般に痘瘡の語が用いられた。 "*was* commonly used by the medical profession".
Take this article for example:
https://www.newsweekjapan.jp/stories/world/2021/11/40-42.php
The whole article is on the history of 天然痘, "痘瘡" gets dropped once.
Google news returns a mountain of results for 天然痘, one page for 痘瘡 (including the example above, which is really about 天然痘).
[dated] is just an easy hint that a learner should use the xref (or maybe the [col] 疱瘡, but probably not this term). Not 100% on how much this is used in modern times.
sankoku says this term is 医学, but says the same of 天然痘 |
