I agree with the [rare[ and [uk]. I'd hide most of them.

example sentence:
「警句を織り交ぜて、話に山葵を利かせる」
Which is just a copy/paste of this:

which is the only place it appears on the internet.
  Comments:
Sense[2] -> [rare]
Add some kanji and kana forms.

Sense[2] is even in sankoku, but I've yet to find an example in the wild.

If you search sankoku's example 話にわさびをきかせる, you get one hit: "to pepper/spice up one's speech", from 和英日本文化表現辞典
sankoku: たいせつなところで強くするどくせまるひょうげんがある。「わさびの利いた評論」 「わさびを効かせる」「話にー」

(one exception to my remarks below, sankoku's exact example appears in a comment on an article/blog post here:)
https://agora-web.jp/archives/1026129.html
...しかし、わさびの利いた評論はなかなか得がたいものですから、いつかは自分もやってみたいと思っています。
Makes me suspicious that sankoku used this very example for lack of anything else... Changing 利いた to きいた yields one additional internet forum comment.

Otherwise, I've tried every variant of this I can come up with, all I get is sense[1].

This is the simplest variant that *should* produce something (it doesn't)
わさびを利かせた話

Twitter search for a simple ”わさびをきかせた": all food
https://twitter.com/search?q="わさびを効かせた"&src=typed_query&f=top

Given how obvious the meaning would be, I'm sure if someone used this in sense[2] they would probably be understood. But this doesn't appear to be any sort of "common" formulation. Too bad, looked like fun.
