GG5: a call of condolence(s); a condolatory call.
中辞典: make a call on a person to express one's condolence [sympathy] |

"bereaved" ≠ "deceased". Trimming. We'd usually lead with the more succinct gloss.
"Call" is quite general. I think the usage is fine. |

Some otherwise very good online English glosses seem to play a bit loose with the English word "call" I think. Too many people (myself included) will default to "phone call".
sankoku says:
文 お悔やみのために、死んだ人の家を訪ねること
Not sure if it must definitively be the home of the person who passed, or perhaps the home of some loved one where a service is held...
Since "家族を弔問" is a thing, it must be more broad... Critically, the direct object is the survivor(s), not the deceased... |
