At least in the monarchical context, the presumptive heir is an heir who may lose their claim do to birth of another child in the family (such as a newborn son trumping an older sister).
The heir apparent cannot be trumped in this way, and basically only loses their claim if they die first. (my limited, briefly researched understanding)
Although, reverso matches talk a lot about disinheritance of a presumptive heir(such as an eldest child). |
