Several years ago we dropped the 行ける form from the いける entry (only GG5 had it). It's been pointed out to me that none of the JEs or kokugos has 行けない in their いけない entries. Should we drop it from here (and also from 行けません)?
An issue would be the reindexing of the ~600 sentences. |

All the kokugos put the "〜の形で" senses at the end. I don't mind moving it higher up. Probably better as the second sense. |

The vast majority of the examples sentences are using the "must not do" sense, which GG5 has as #1, and this edit proposes that it move from #3 to #6. Shouldn't it be higher? |

Copying over from cancelled いけないから proposal (2855579). As with GG5, Daijisen, etc. it's probably better as a sense in the いけない entry.
If approved I'll reindex the sentences. |

I agree that it's best that in the cross-reference list いけない should not point to 行く (although 行けない is, of course, a valid inflection.) I have dropped that link. |

In searching for "いけない", two entries come up, namely: the above and also the following:-
いけない (etc.) See: 行く 生ける
As a searcher, one may think that there is a difference between the two entries in the context of "行く".
I am wondering, subject to technical issues, if the link to "行く" could be deleted from the "いけない (etc.) See: 行く 生ける", thus leaving only the connection to "生ける" for the negative of arranging flowers, etc.
Then it would be clear that one was simply a negative of a verb entry, whereas the other [i.e., the main entry above] has a special meaning. Perhaps also the link to "行く" could be included to help the searcher, but by implication that is already shown with "《行けない》"; although I am not sure why the main kanji entry above which is "行けない" does not come up in the search entry already. I suppose that, because the kanji form is not used in the case of "いけない", you have to manually convert "行けない" to "《行けない》".
If I am on the wrong lines, my apologies. |
